Gayle Kouklis is an emergency medicine physician in the midst of moving to Seattle. She is from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. She completed residency and continues to teach at UCSF Fresno. During residency, she worked with the National Park Service Parkmedic Program, training advanced EMT Park Rangers from across the country. She also helped with medical direction for Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks. She is a fellow of the University of Colorado Climate Change and Health Science Policy Fellowship program, focusing primarily on the intersection of heat, environmental justice, and human health. She works with overburdened and under resourced communities in Alaska and Central California who are experiencing the greatest impacts of heat. She also is partnering with Cornell to explore the impacts of trees on urban heat islands and the communities living in these spaces. In her spare time, she enjoys climbing, train running, hammocking, cooking, fishing, photography, and playing music.
